Bangladeshi Shakib Al Hasan all-round bat, which he used during the 2019 ICC cricket world cup in England, was sold for 20 lakh Taka after the 33-year-old followed in the footsteps of teammate Mushfiqur Rahim for auction one of his favorite bats in order to raise funds to fight the coronavirus crisis.
The online auction was organized by a page called "Auction 4 Action" on social media. The base price for Shakib's club was set at 5 lakh Taka. And after a battle between a number of bidders, the bat was finally bought by Raj, a Bangladesh currently residing in the United States, for 20 lakh Taka. The online auction ended at 11:15 pm on Wednesday evening.
The Bangladesh handyman had a very successful World Cup on a personal level, setting numerous records despite the fact that Bangladesh did not manage to get out of the tournament's championship phase. Shakib scored 606 runs in eight games at an average of 86.57 and hit five fifties and two tons of bullshit against England and the West Indies.
Shakib shared his story with the club and also said he isn't "out" yet.
"I use this bat and another from the IPL, preparing for the next World Cup. I've always used these two bats to practice nets. Normally we use different bats for training and games. But when I went to Ireland, I used this club when I found myself comfortable with it after exercising for a long time. I had built a relationship with this club.
"It was however marked as a second or third club, which means it was never my first choice club for the days. I played really well in Ireland with this club and have used it for the days ever since. Then also in the World Cup, I played the whole tournament with it. Only in the game against England did I use a different club, but also the one after breaking 120 with this one, but I was not able to score even a race with the other club and then I realized that it could be this is the club with which I must mark the heats. I also played with this club in the last game I played for Bangladesh against Afghanistan before being suspended. I am not yet "out" with that club that I was undefeated in my last game "Shakib shared his story during a live video show organized by 'Auction 4 Action' on social media.
The fund raised from the auction of this bat will be added to the Shakib Al Hasan Foundation and will be used to help fight the coronavirus crisis.
